There aren’t many things in this world that make me happier than a book. I know this might make me lame, but it’s how I grew up. I love their ability to make me think and to allow me to escape from the regular day to day business of life.
Last year, I read 79 books*, but this year, I am hoping to break that record and get up to 100. So far this year, I have read 12 and I am in the middle of my 13th, however I have a pile of books ready to go after that one. I have to admit, sometimes when I am reading and I look at my “to read” pile, if I’ve got less than three books on standby, I feel a little nervous, like I could run out and then be left with nothing. Since we have a Chapters near us, there’s not really any danger of that happening but I always try to stay on top of things just in case there’s some sort of book stoppage or emergency situation that would prevent me from acquiring more. 😛
Something else I love with a nerdy passion is Valentine’s Day. I wasn’t one for boyfriends in my younger days (I think I had my first one when I was 17 and that was not over Valentine’s Day) so I enjoy celebrating and spoiling my husband a little bit when the day rolls around. I still remember our first Valentine’s Day together. I was unemployed and broke, so I got some crafting supplies and I made him a three-disc CD set and packed it in a box filled with candy. He in turn bought me a favourite book of his and wrote a romantic inscription in it for me. After we opened our gifts, we snuggled down in bed with some chocolate cake and watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It was awesome.
In any case, sticking with tradition, Boy spoiled me this year** with a $100 gift certificate for Amazon! I know some people say gift certificates are impersonal, but I couldn’t be more stoked. Besides with 448*** items on my wishlist, picking something out for me would probably have been a bit tricky.
Boy is out rockclimbing with a friend this evening so while he’s off doing that, I plan to make myself some hot tea, curl up with a blanket and pick out all my goodies. I am counting down the hours until I get to go home! So awesome!
Love you muchly B! You sure know how to pamper a girl! 😉
*I was really close to 80 but I didn’t read fast enough to finish the last one before New Year’s Eve.
**We are notorious for giving each other presents too early. As it is, he got his gifts from me, this shirt and this book, about 2 weeks ago.
*** It was 435 items yesterday, but you know . . . stuff happened.
