(I meant to update again yesterday, but I’m still experiencing the lag of the time change, so I might post slightly less frequently this week.)
So last night, I caught the new Nathan Fillion show Castle, and even though it had the typical pilot roughness about it (there’s a lot of exposition and character set-up), it was actually okay.
I don’t love it yet, but years of growing up with a mystery obsessed mom have taugh me to appreciate this kind of thing, so it kept me interested enough and I think it at least has the potential to be a regular show of mine.
The only thing I found weird about it was the sound effects that somehow made their way into the audioscape of the show. When Castle’s mom went to pick up the silver fox, when Beckett rolled her eyes at someone’s foolishness or when Castle punched out the murderer, I heard these weird cartoony noises come out of nowhere which were kind of distracting.
I mean granted, it wasn’t the “bang! zoom! mint!” style of effects from, say, old Batman episodes, but for a show pitted in realism, it was kind of bizarre.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing what a regular episode is like next week, but I’m crossing my fingers that it cuts out some of the “wakka-wakka!” that seemed to be in yesterday’s show.
Did any of you watch it? What did you think?
