It’s Monday, so I figured I would keep up the tradition and slough through another update entry.
I’ve managed to make some decent progress since last week and funnily enough, a bunch of it has come by way of my parents.
I was talking to my parents on the phone a while ago and when I mentioned I was doing this list, they got so excited about it, they each made lists of their own!
In fact, my dad is so gung-ho about the list that he is insistent on bringing me to an Indian restaraunt I’ve never been to before for our dinner date tomorrow so that it will help me cross three things off mine.
Anyway, here are the changes since last week*:
3. Start jewelry making again – In Progress
Yesterday I hit a supplies store in Roncesvalles to grab some more stuff for my projects. So far, I’ve only assembled one little necklace for my friend Zoe (really more putting a pendant together on a chain than anything), but I’m hoping later this week, I can post pictures of my handiwork.
9. Read 10 YA titles – In Progress.
In addition to my previous two titles, I also managed to polish off Freshman by Michael Gerber. It was a kind of surreal Prachett-esqe book about a guy in college, but it was a decent enough read.
10. Make CD for Tara – Done!
I forgot to take pictures since I finished it late last night (watching Brothers & Sisters may have slowed me down a little bit), but I burned and decorated a disk with some of my favourite tunes on it and am planning to mail it today. So Tara, if you’re reading, expect 1 monkey CD in your mailbox in the next week or so!
12. Write 500 blog posts – In Progress.
This is post 134 of 500 which has made me realize how substantial a goal this is. I feel like I am always writing and yet somehow it’s never enough. Crazy!
16. Organize book group – Done!
I was shocked at the response I got for this one. People were really into the idea and as of right now, we have about 20 members in our little literary gang. You guys are awesome!
28. Go out for Indian food, 46. Try 10 new restaurants and 98. Have 10 dinners with my dad – In Progress.
Tomorrow, my dad is bringing me to a little Indian restaurant he and my mom like for dinner.
40. Play my way through at least 6 video games start to finish – In Progress.
I managed to play through some more of this game and am liking it so far. It’s a Bioware title and as they did one of my other favourite games (Jade Empire), I know that they’re reliable when it comes to providing a good story. In my last round of play, I helped the city underdwellers, gave a mutation antidote to a doctor and rescued a captured Jedi. If only my real life were this exciting!
45. Make it to level 80 in WOW – In Progress.
I haven’t played a tonne of WOW lately, but managed to get up another level after fighting giant killer beetles. In fact, the picture at the top of the post is a screenshot from our recent adventuring and features me (Imalinna), Boy (Farhoof) and my hunter pet (Crichton) sitting outside Booty Bay while we recover our mana.
65. Look into getting health insurance outside of a job – Done!
Boy and I met with his father this weekend and we discussed this crazy adult thing, as well as the idea of putting some money into a Tax Free Savings Account. Since I don’t make a tonne of cash in my job and since Boy hasn’t yet paid taxes on his first real year of contract work, we haven’t set anything up yet, but we’re hoping by May or so, we can start socking money away.
66. Go to some sort of Comic-Con – In Progress.
I signed up for an e-mail newsletter at a regular comic shop of mine and I found out that there’s going to be a comic arts festival in May in Toronto which Bryan Lee O’Malley (Scott Pilgrim author) is going to attend so I have penciled it into my calendar. Eventually, I would like to be able to hit the Comic-Cons in SF and NY, but considering this is the biggest thing in my city, I feel like it would be checking off a list item just the same.
73. Swear off chocolate and pop for 40 days – In Progress.
I’m a little less than a week into this one (6 days) and I’ve got to say it’s hard (Starbucks has so much chocolate in all of their breakfast foods!), but I’m doing okay so far. Iced Tea and Water have become staples in my diet.
80. Get tapes and teach myself another language – In Progress.
I used to take French back in the day but since it’s been about a decade since I had regular exposure to it and since Boy and I have been talking about going to Paris pretty much since we got together, I figured it would be good to get back in the habit. Therefore, language tapes are coming my way!
Now in addition to my regular update, I’m putting it out there to the audience to see if you might be able to help me with a couple of the things on my list since you are all obviously savvy web dwellers yourselves.
91. Subscribe to a magazine I like – Foiled!
I wanted to subscribe to Craft magazine but I read on their site that they are no longer going to be doing a printed version of the magazine after their most recent issue, so I’m a little stumped. Can anyone think of a title that is similarly creative or a title that is pop culture based?
93. Organize bathroom cabinet and chuck out all the toiletries I will never use – Stumped!
I’m planning to do this this week but even getting rid of a lot of stuff won’t help with the fact that our bathroom is small and we only have one shelve under the sink to put things. Does anyone know of a good bathroom organizer that might help?
Anyway, how is everyone else doing with their lists? Any progress this week?
* If I’m still working on it but there has been no progress, I’m leaving it off the update list.
