Today is the day that will truly test my willpower. Today is the day that marks the start it all. Today is the day that I give up pop and chocolate for 40 days.
So rich and flaky and delightful . . .
I’m not religious so I don’t really participate in or observe any religious rights or ceremonies, but I’ve always kind of thought lent was cool. So much of modern life is getting exactly what we want the second we want it, and so I totally appreciate doing something that contradicts that notion. It’s good to exercise restraint.
Plus, for a desk jockey like me, there is the added bonus of using this as a period of detoxification. I often default to pop and chocolate as quick sugary powerups but, as I get older, not only am I realizing that they don’t work as well as they used to but they’re actually making me feel kind of crappy and gut-rotty.
Adieu, my sweet and sugary mistress!
So this morning is my kick off. If I can make it through to Palm Sunday without a drop or a bite of pop and chocolate, I will hopefully feel a lot better AND I will be able to cross another thing off the list! Hooray!
Unrelated sidenote – You guys rock! Yesterday was the busiest day I’ve ever had here at the blog and there was a great response to the book club idea so that was amazing. I’m hoping to get things rolling by pounding out the official outline for the project today and then I’ll do a post/e-mail details later after that. Exciting!
