This morning, doing a tech browse to catch up on everything I missed, I saw some pics of the newest edition to the LG Touch family. So, I present to you, The Watch of the Future!
According to LG, this puppy can perform the fuctions of a regular phone and its mic can pick up your voice even when your hand is at your side.
On one level, I understand the practicality of this. It’s nice to have something that’s multifunctional and as my cell phone always used to slide right down to the bottom of my purse, I can appreciate having something like this at hand (hardyharhar).
But on another level, I find it kind of weird. I mean won’t people look kind of nuts shouting into their watches* or just seeming to talk to themselves? And what about going to the movies? Are people going to remember to turn off their watches?
I get that there are situations where cell phones are incredibly useful and good to have, but I think generally, they are electronic leashes and I’m happy not to have one. I don’t want to have to account for/be in touch with everyone I know every moment of my life. Maybe it’s a little Henry David Thoreau of me, but I like taking off and not being able to be reached for a period of time.
If it were up to me, I’d spend some of the money that they’re putting towards making cell phones smaller and snappier into hoverboard research. I mean how long as it been since Back to the Future, Part 2 and we still don’t have them? Someone get on that already!
*I know you can use a headset with it, but just like there are people who insist on answering their cells on speaker phone, you know there will be people who yell into their timepieces.
