As I am big on ridiculously retro stuff and of the occasional trashy chick-lit book, when I discovered “The V.C. Andrews Read The Good Trash Movement” a little while ago, I was highly entertained.
I’ve never read the books in question, but I saw the movie version of Flowers In The Attic last year and I have various childhood memories of seeing them in the grocery store and hearing my friend Mel talk about their most salacious parts during elementary school recess (Mel’s mom worked nights sometimes so when her babysitter wasn’t looking she would sneak a peak at the copies left on the nightstand).
Anyway, according to the organizing blog, the idea behind the movement is to read roughly one V.C. Andrews book a month for the whole of 2009. At first, I thought this was crazy because how could there be that many titles to go around, but apparently, V.C.’s got over 60 books credited to her name, with the most recent one coming out next month! Even though she’s been dead since 1986! I don’t know about any of you other writers out there, but it totally makes me feel unproductive if a dead woman is lapping me in the published works race.
Anyway, it’s already started, so if V.C. Andrews is your bag, or if you just feel like reading snark about trashy books, the details can be found here.
