As a movie person, I’ve been following the coverage of Sundance fairly religiously because it’s a pretty big event in the film world and a lot of what happens there can kind of determine what the film landscape is going to look like for the year.
Anyway, yesterday when I went online for the dirt, I was happy to see there was a review posted for the new movie Brief Interviews With Hideous Men which is directed by everyone’s favourite Office mate John Krasinski. Krasinski has been noted as saying in the press that this was a passion project for him and that the book, written by David Foster Wallace, is an all-time favourite. However, unfortunately for John, in spite of all of that enthusiasm, the verdict so far is . . . not so good.
John Krasinski’s Sundance ID photo. Little does his cute little puddin’ face know what is lying on the horizon.
In spite of my not being as enamoured as I used to be with our old pal Jim*, he does seem to be a genuinely nice guy and reading the review kind of bummed me out on his behalf. I mean who wants to hear that something they’ve been working on for years (he tried to option it before he was even an actor) turned out to be a “pretentious mess”? If I were facing that kind of critique, I wouldn’t feel too great either.
Anyway, I hope someone in Utah gives the dude a hug after that kick in the teeth. Johnny boy, I’m sorry you’re not this year’s Zach Braff.
(Actually, come to think of it, maybe you’re better off . . .)
*To be fair, this is probably because they haven’t given him a whole lot to do on the show lately. C’Mon writers, bring Jim back to his season two glory and make me want to swing a leg over him again!
