Last night at 10 PM, just as I was finishing watching 30 Rock, our power went out.
At first, we wondered if it was contained to our apartment and if we had been running too many electrical appliances. Then, we thought it was contained to our building because the houses across the street seemed to have power. But this morning we learned the truth – a whole chunk of Toronto had lost power because one of the stations had somehow been flooded. This meant no power for a huge of the city and no running subway for most of the Bloor line.
Guess which subway line I take?
So, after virtually no sleep (we had no batteries in our alarm clock when the power went out and I was paranoid about waking up late) and with no food in my stomach, I walked over 4 km for 1 hour and 20 minutes in -20 C and I finally made it into work . . . to discover my boss (who, it should be noted, does not live in the affected areas) had called in sick.
Yes, today is a good day . . .
Anyway, I’ll write more later this morning, but right now I have to fuel myself with an extra large coffee and rest my legs for a moment . . .
